Alex graduated from NAIT in 1979 as a Denturist. In 1983, Alex purchased Black Dental Lab which became Black & Gilmore Denture Clinic Ltd. Alex was hard working and took great pride in his career. Always going above and beyond for others, he built a special relationship with his patients. In 2009, he was lucky to be joined by his son, Adam, who shares Alex’s passion for work. He was an innovative practitioner who never failed to learn new techniques.

Alex lived life fully, with passion, courage and compassion. He will always be remembered for being able to form deep connections to the people in his life. He enjoyed the camaraderie and company of his friends. Possessing natural curiosity, he loved to explore new hobbies. The breadth of his interest and skill is astonishing – cars, guitars, hunting, fishing, model airplanes, drawing, golf and history. He loved the outdoors and any pursuits in the natural environment. Alex’s family was central to his life. He would do anything, anywhere, any time to support those he loved. He truly cherished every gathering and connection with his children and brother’s family.

Alex is predeceased by his grandparents, Albert and Elizabeth Dietrich; father, Ronald Gilmore.

Alex is survived by his children, Tia (Jon) and Adam (Erica); mother, Agnes; brother and best friend, Don, loving sister Cheryl, nieces Cassandra and Michelle; sister, Barbara; brother, Scott; and all his lifelong friends.
